An electric guitar? I'd start with a standard Gibson Stratocaster. That's the one I started out with. I now have a Soulbinder, but a Stratocaster is a good violão, guitarra to start with.

If you want an acoustic guitar, I started with a steel-string Western guitar. Steel strings are easier to play, since nylon strings tend to 'move down' with your pick more. That can be a bit annoying. I'd start with a steel-string violão, guitarra if I were you.

When you get your first guitar, always go for something that is cheap and not exactly precision, maybe even a used one. Why? Because you might loose interest very quickly, or you might decide that it isn't for you, so really, get anything. If you have been playing for at least 2 years and you are really enjoying it, and practacing well, then you are ready to kick it up a notch, and if you haven't found out enough about guitars por then to decide, then something is wrong, but if you don't know, then anything por Gibson is usually good and Fenders are good, but I have heard they are over priced.
