Has any one ever wondered why the word for the fear of really long words, Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, is soooo long?

I just thought that it didn't make any sense. I mean, when you tell some one who has Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, that they have it, wouldn't it freak them out more?
