There\'s nothing like a good trailer to get us excited about the next big blockbuster.

But trailers can deceive, and just because they leave you pumped after two minutes of action, that isn\'t necessarily a true reflection on the finished product.

Here are eleven trailers that promised so much more than their films could deliver:

we almost felt like we were watching an extend edit when we finally caught the movie. And sadly 2 hour version of the trailers just wasn\'t any good. It wasn\'t just that the trailers had all the best bits, they also made it look a whole lot edgier and anarchic than the finished film was. Give us the movie you promised us David Ayer!

Our first look at this Zack Snyder original promised a mad fantasy where badass fighting girls take on dragons, robots, samurai and robot samurai. What we got was an incoherent plot with something called the \'brothel reality\' that was so unremittingly sepia-toned that we wanted to check the projectionist hadn\'t slipped a flour sack over the lens.

Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson and Jennifer Connelly feature in this moody trailer, with the sound of a runaway train coming to crash into their lives amping up the tension with every second. The reality was a minor fender-bender where middle class ennui collides with absurd circumstance.

was a disappointment, but we dared hope that this 2013 sequel could honour our childhood toys with its mix of action and snappy dialogue, evil President Jonathan Pryce and Bruce Willis firing a machine gun from the back of a skidding pickup. But hiding beneath that rocking \'Seven Nation Army\' bassline was a horrible, confusing mess.

Gareth Edwards\'s teaser brilliantly anticipated the prospect of the city-trashing Godzilla. But two hours of teasing with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the booby prize, just didn\'t cut it.

The world went nuts for Nicholas Winding Refn\'s

, and the trailer for his reunion with Ryan Gosling promised more sleek and stylish action, but when the film arrived apparently lightning couldn\'t strike twice. Just ask the critics who booed it at Cannes.

OK, so maybe it did spoil the film\'s twist, but the trailer still promised glossy and high-octane action. All we really remember about it now was Christian Bale going apeshit on set and critics thinking that Arnold Schwarzenegger needed to come back to save the franchise (spoiler: they were so wrong).

For years it looked like Brett Ratner had killed the

franchise with this messy assassination of the classic comic books stories. Even knowing that, Ian McKellen\'s "we are the cure" line in the trailer still gives us goosebumps.

Forget Colin Farrell\'s wig for a moment, and the fact that Angelina Jolie is supposed to be his mum – the trailer for

looks epic in the best way possible. Alas, the completed film was just epically dull.

Frank Miller managed to capture the comic book aesthetic in a way no one else ever has when he teamed up with Robert Rodriguez to adapt his own

promised more of the same, but, as Roger Ebert put it, "To call the characters cardboard is to insult a useful packing material."
