This is my theory as posted on lost-theories.com
I’ve read and heard a lot of theories with respect to the fact that the island moved to the past and mais specifically to the Dharma era.
The answer to whether the island has moved in the past or the future has already been given to us throughout season four. To be precise:
1. Season 4 episode 13-14: Locke and Ben Enter the Orchid Station, Ben asks Locke to watch the orientation tape. In that Tape Dr Halliwax makes a demonstration of the experiments that take place to that station. mais specifically he explains how he is going to “shift a subject 100ms ahead in four-dimensional space. For the briefest of the moments the animal will seem to disappear but in reality…” and the video goes backwards.
2. Season 4 episode 9: flash-forward of Ben after he has moved the island the encontro, data according to the receptionist is 24th October 2005.
The same explanation given por Halliwax applies also in the case of the Island’s “shiftment”. The Island moved to the future time of 24th October 2005.
But what is the 4-dimensional o espaço Halliwax talks about? Probably these for Dimensions are the same Dimension that Faradays talks about in his notebook: Time, Space, Imaginary Time and Imaginary Space
A definition of imaginary time given por Wikipedia:
“Imaginary time is difficult to visualize. If we imagine “regular time” as a horizontal line with “past” on one side and “future” on the other, then imaginary time would run perpendicular to this line as the imaginary numbers run perpendicular to the real numbers in the complex plane. However, imaginary time is not imaginary in the sense that it is unreal or made-up—it simply runs in a direction different from the type of time we experience. In essence, imaginary time is a way of looking at the time dimension as if it were a dimension of space: you can mover progressivo, para a frente and backward along imaginary time, just like you can mover right and left in space.”

Similar to what has been defined as imaginary time imaginary o espaço can also be defined. Since time-space go along together.
Try to remember some physics: in physics problems we used to draw an horizontal line for o espaço and a vertical line for time (or vice versa) both line were met at point 0 right?...
Now try this: (it may be silly but I’ve have the time to do and don’t bother doing it, try it out)
Take a blank piece of A4 paper and a ruler,
1.draw a line on one side of the paper (that is you “regular time” line) (shape like I)
2.To a vertical side of the paper draw a segundo line vertically to the first line (shaping an L) (that’s your “regular o espaço line)
3. Now draw a parallel line to your “regular time” line side of the paper (Shape like Џ ) that is your imaginary time line
4. Finally complete the parallelogram por drawing the last line (a line parallel to “regular space” line) this last line is you imaginery o espaço line
Remember the two pairs of lines must start from the same point zero (ex. From where is zero point for “regular time” line must also be zero point for “regular space” line)
And now a final step: connect all opposite line with many smaller lines so as to finally have a parallelogram filled with smaller ones (Just like Faraday’s shape in his Journal)
Sorry if this is tiring…
What you now have is a Matrix of multiple “timelines”: combination of time-space regardless of their nature (you may have connection points between real time-real space, real time-imaginary space, imaginary time-real space, imaginary time-imaginary space, real time-imaginary time, real space-imaginary space). Endless combinations - spots.
So theoretically one can be on anyone of these spots, but according to classic physics since he gets on one cannot shift to another!
What if somehow you could fold the paper so as to eventually shrink it as if you have one spot from the matrix?...too difficult, even if you had a pin to embrulho, envoltório it…
Well according to the Pin Theory that’s what the Island is: It is a Pin that holds all these spots of the matrix and “lives” on topo, início of one of these spots. If you take off the pin and rapidly put it back to place it may not be on topo, início of the same spot… (The island moved…so something’s not right on the island)
On the other hand if the pin is for a reason not “stable” the matrix will start “popping up” revealing also other spots except the one on which the pin stands on…(So either the incident or the cisne station explosion made the island “unstable”)
Is this why losties were seeing strange things on the island such like dead people or people that shouldn’t be on it?
Is this why Jacob’s cabine moves and is seeing only when Jacob wants and por those who he wants?
Is this why the island itself remained out of side from the outside world’s timeline?
Oceanic 6 left the island and therefore “left” its current timeline, this means that a spot of the matrix (the one the island was on) changed unexpectedly due to external to the island factors did that caused the mess of the matrix as a whole?
Remember when I was talking about the Island representing a PIN that keeps tight and altogether in order numerous timelines, imagine now that someone instantly pulls off the PIN and put it back in place. No matter how good he is at doing this it is improbable that he manages to put the PIN at the exact same spot (timeline) he may get it a bit but he will also bin other spot(s) or parts of spot(s). The only certain thing is that there’s going to be a mess rather than a well organized-harmonic pile, might say of spots. One will be able to see parts of other spots underneath the pile popping out from the sides…
Similarly to the PIN, the Island will reveal some parts of other timelines as well, popping out of nowhere… What these parts may be? ...lots of different things:
-People from the past,
-See site previously destroyed or never existed before due to the islands anterior timeline (for example on a different timeline, Dharma Initiative members –if existed- might had constructed a dam or something to collect water…)
-Dead people, alive again because at a different timeline, different things might have happened that prevented them from dying.
- “Dublicates”!!! Yes it could be possible (For example it could be possible that someone could see his duplicate doing something already done in the past but a bit differently.) Alternatively to the above, someone could be able to watch an event on the island that happened while he was also that time there but not present on the event (only heard of it)
- Unknown persons, events, ect: that is something that did not exist at all at the timeline on which the island was on prior to the movement.
In fact all the above mentioned had always been there but could not be “met” or “crossed” because timelines were not crossed to each other. There was balance… but now it’s lost. Because of the movement left-be hinders Losties will face what Desmond did in “the Constant” maybe not at the same range but they will!
Some may have lost present consciousness; others may have nose bleedings etc… All this will happen because they were exposed to an incident!
But is there any cure? Is this why Oceanic 6 need to go back: is the Oceanic 6 group the left-behinders’ constant? Maybe? Maybe not!
And if you ask me about the DI and the numbers:
por accepting this PIN theory as a fact what Dharma was trying to do was to find, to detect a “spot” on this “pile” – a timeline on which the Numbers did not exist as a part of the “some guy’s”… Equazion because that guy did not exist on that timeline…
