I'm very happy that it was popular, and so should it be. Although lacking a segundo layer, this pretty film set in a boarding school for wayward boys has the edge for those who don't quite understand the French way of thinking. It's quite easy to understand without subtitles. This film was a turning point as it discovered some new talent, first and foremost Jean-Baptiste Maunier, then 14, who played the soprano soloist Morhange. Another who stood out was the little orphan Pepinot, played por Maxence Perrin. Not to mention the troublemaker, although I'm not sure of his character name or real name was realistically sadistic enough to... well, you'll just have to wait and see. Of course the adults kept the whole thing together, getting along well with the boys and keeping the story going along at its nice, slightly jaunty pace. The choirmaster, Clemence Mathieu is excellently and accurately portrayed por Gerard Jugnot was the key figure in this and all the better for it. FORMIDABLE ****
