Since I've started watching Hetalia, I've read many Fanfictions and Roleplays (which I don't do myself) and I've come across very well-written, wonderful ones, some of which almost made me cry, or made me laugh hysterically in a way that made my mum look at me in a weird way.... And, I've also seen some that were very, very, very horrible. Here is a (mini) list on the things that annoy me greatly, and sometimes make go nuts/ want to bleach my brain so I can forget the atrocity that I read.

Here we go:

1- Adding No Warnings, Even When It includes Sensitive Subjects Like Rape, Torture etc: Imagine you are leitura a sweet, romantic little oneshot... And suddenly everything goes berserk when the main character is raped por someone (Often close to them; like their father or brother, which makes it even mais disgusting than it already is).

2- Inaccuarte Historical Events/Messing Up An Important Historical Event: Because we all know that England was after conquering all of Europe, and Spain not at all planned to invade him to take the English trono from queen Elizabeth I. And that's very much incorrect. I'm not going to go on a rant about history, but fanfiction writers who wrote/are planning to write a story centering around the Armada Incident: Read actual history instead of relying on Hetalia. Other examples of this include the misinterpret of the Revolutionary War, the Norman Conquests, Hiroshima/Nagasaki Bombing, World Wars, Cold War.

3-The Extreme Use Of Seme/Uke Bases In The yaoi Fanfic/Doujinshi: A word to yaoi writers: Unless the pairing you're composição literária about includes Japan, please forget about the Seme/Uke thing. In the Western World, there's no such thing between gay couples called who's the 'submissive' and who's the 'Dominant'. Only people in Japão do that, and that's because it's a tradition for them. People who are constantly fighting over who 'tops' and 'bottoms' in yaoi couples not only disturb me, but also disgust me, because clearly in their mind the only thing that's to BL is the sex, and that they care nothing for the actual emotions between two males.

4-The Use Of Disorders With Complete Ignorance Towards What They Actually Are: There are many fanfictions that are centered around a certain character having a disorder. Since we are talking about countries who have went through a lot of hardships and trauma, it wouldn't be shocking if some of them were mentally unstable. However, I would like to know if it's too much to ask for the writers to actually study a little bit of the disorder they are composição literária about than merely saying 'Oh! Italy is bipolar so he needs Germany's help to hang on to life!' Seriously? And believe it or not, that's exactly how most of them go. Another example is America having anorexia. Except that no one actually cares about how an anorexic person feels and merely use this as a shipping trigger. Another thing that I would like to make clear: Pedophilia is also a disorder. So stop composição literária fanfiction where a character falls in amor with the child version of another one, then say: "He/she just feel that way about him/her. He/ She is in amor so it's okay!" No, it's not. Pedophilia is a disorder in which an adult feels sexual attraction towards children. Going with that, pedophiles do not fall in love, they merely feel bodily attraction. Nothing more, nothing less.

5-Random Appearance Of OC: no offense to anyone, but I am someone who's deeply in hate with badly written, Mary-Sue OCs (EX: Scotland, Philippines, Mexico, Ireland). The thing that frustrates me most about this is the fact that the fanfiction wouldn't have changed a single a bit even if the OC didn't appear. But of course not, writers just had to whore their OCs around. And it would've been fine if they at least gave a warning! Something like: 'Warning: Pointless appearnce of pointless Mary-Sue OC'

6- A Character That Is In No Way Related to Japão Using The Japanese Language: so the other dia I was leitura this cute funny little GerIta fanfiction, when HE appeared............. "Doitsu". God, I want to bash my head against a mural when I read fanfic where Italy refers to Germany as the aforementioned name, and to Romano as "Nii-san". I don't care if you "just watched the the subbed version" that is no excuse. No country would ever overlook their own language and speak anothers so casually all the time, especially Europeans, who are very proud of their culture no matter the country. Another example of this is America's reference to England as 'Iggy'. I don't care if the fangirls do it... Just not the actual characters.

7-When Everyone Is Gay: Please don't take this the wrong way. I am Not insulting Homosexuals, I would never. But it would do for the writers to be a bit realistic. Seriously, Why is everybody always gay? The main character is gay, their parents are gay, their best friends are gay, their teachers are gay, their neighbors are gay, their bosses are gay, even that guy walking in the park is gay.

8-The Complete Unrealistic Way The Characters Are Often Portrayed In: So it seems like half of the fandom see the characters this way: America= Naive idiot who can't read the atmosphere even if his life depended on it; Italy=the other idiot with no backbone; Russia= The crazy murderer/mafia leader nobody wants to go near except his little sister who's trying to rape him; England= A PMSing woman (The hell?, someone actually referred to him as such... mais than one fangirl, actually) France= The perverted rapist who's molesting everything that's on two legs/is ruining everyone's relationships; Hungary= The yaoi fangirl who has nothing to do but matchmake every single male person, even if that person happened to be her boyfriend/husband. Those are the ones I remember, I'm pretty sure there's more.

9- When Half Of The Chapter Is Written In Another Language: And you have to scroll down to the end to understand what in God's name is going on. Honestly, if you want to show off how much you know of another language, do it in a sentence or two, NOT the whole chapter.

10- Multi-Shipping Fanfictions Involving The Same Person: So I'm a UsUk fangirl who can't stand RusAme (I'm sorry, RusAme fans, I have nothing against you... Unless you have someting against me) So it's pretty disturbing for me to suddenly have it popping up in my face with no warning. I mean, can't you guys see how stupid that is? No self-respecting person would stay in a relationship with someone who's blatantly cheating on them right before their eyes. And even if they did, they would at least show a little reaction. I don't care what pairings you ship,and if you consider all of the characters the harem of you favourite one. That's your opinion and taste and it has nothing to do with me,just be realistic when you're writing. If two people are together, there's no room for a third person unless it's an open relationship, which I personally don't consider a relationship at all.

And finally... Reader Insert Fanfictions: You know what bothers me about these fanfictions? The fact that they EXIST!

So, these are SOME of the things (Trust me, there's more) that annoy me in hetalia - axis powers fanworks. Feel free to say what things YOU dislike.

TomboyYaoiFan56 I agree completely with the last one. I also hate how I see so many fanfictions portraying Ivan as a rapist. And ironically, I don't see Matthew in a lot of them. I also hate how I've seen fanfictions with thinly veiled hatred for a certain character. I've also seen how shippings get shitstormed because of how unpopular it is. And the overused portrayal of Francis' perversion. I don't hate fanfictions depicting any rape at all, I just don't like how popular it is within the fandom, and how they think of it as so little a deal.

black_amaranth ^On the subject of rape, I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as it's written realistically. Which is something that only about 30% of the writers can do. I hate it when rape is taken so lightly by the fandom. Clearly in their mind rape equels a rough shag, and not the actual horrible act that it is. The main reason why I added that was because there're a lot of minors n the fandom who's minds really shouldn't get anymore corrupted than they already are due to having internet at their house in the first place.

MallowMarsh As for the OC thing, I don't mind OCs as long as they're well-written, although I agree that many are not well-written. I guess most of the Hetalia OCs in fanfics are thinly-veiled self-inserts. I'd also like to comment on the Inaccurate Historical Portrayal issue. I've seen several fanfics where the author just randomly [i]makes up[/i] a war or invasion that never even existed just for the sake of shipping two nations, and I find it extremely disrespectful towards history. Heck, I've seen people make up a "World War III" just so they could write their ship. Just--no. Thank you for posting this, I agree with many of the things you said.

black_amaranth ^You nailed it. I hate all those WWIII fanfictions. People out to realise there's much more to war than just the pairings you can get out of them. War is bloodshed, suffering, pain and death, NOT a shipping trigger. And thanks to you for taking time to read my rant. I just had to get it out of my chest.

MallowMarsh You're quite welcome. This deserves to be read by more fans. Perhaps the ones that actually write like this will stop after realizing what they're doing.

kakukun Oh my Glob yes! I agree with a lot of things you've written, especially about the OC's. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind OC's at all (just like Marsh said) as long as they're well written and stuff. When I read a fanfic about my country, the Philippines, sometimes I don't see how that could possibly be portrayed accurately. -_- And because of a lot of these issues, I've stopped reading fanfics for a while. I might start reading again, though, if I have the time.

Tinekraut Wow, so that's how it is. Those fanfics and doujinshis. I don't read that much of it. I only take a look of the ones posted in here so I don't know much. I just hope more writers could read this article so they'd realize. Excellent observation there, Ama. Well, it's not that bad to let one's imagination to work but writers should also take consideration of its prospect readers. You'd like to express yourself with your work but if the content is just going to be totally wrong or way over the board so as to make the readers cringe then what's the point of publicizing the fanfic/doujinshi? Better keep it to oneself then rather than add it up to the number of things that's making this fandom having a bad image. Like how it did to my country. Just the wikia entry of her OC profile. It already disappoints me. It was already taken down though. Lots of inaccuracies.

T045tToastToAsT I totally agree with this article! Some stuff in fanfiction is just... bleh. I don't mind OCs at all, (But if they're Mary-sue and they're historically innacurate then, UGH.) and there's actually a really good fic called 'The Fangirl' that has a really good message in it. I recommend you read it. ;) It's not bad at all, I swear. :O

black_amaranth Oh! Okay. I'll definitely read it. Tine: Ah, yes, that's how most of them are. I remember before when Hetalia wasn't this popular. There were actually very good writers out there. Then Hetalia started getting more attention and with that, more ignorant authors who can't write for the life of them started popping up. When I look through the older fanfiction lists I notice that there wasn't as many, if any, reader-insert and OC works. And as you said, it really would do for them to keep their fantasies to themselves. I find those stupid reader-insert works not only horrible, but also pretty creepy as well.

Izumi17 hi... I'm agree with one or two of your points of view specially 4 and 7. Hetalia opened my mind to other points of view, this anime allow me to read, and write fanfics, but when I read some they are really.... yack... I don't Know how describe them. They are full of pervers and pedofiles and relationhips without any logical sense. I repect very much the yaoi fanfic, some of them make me laugh and cry but others are really .... I don't know the word in english but in spanish is like dirty. I really apreciate your list because that help me to not do write this kind of mistakes. It wasn't this bad before when Hetalia wasn't so popular, but now the whole fandom is full of ignorant fangirls with sick minds. And you're very much welcome, mi amigo. I'm always open for advise :)

DarkFlash I agree with everything, number 8 the most. We all know how they act in the series but can't they make their personalities more realistic when writing a fan fiction? The "France is such a pervert!" or "Prussia keeps saying 'I'm awesome'" bit or anything related to that is just becoming more and more idiotic -_-. Yes, France may be perverted at times, but he doesn't think like that 24/7! Sure, Prussia likes to say he's awesome most of the time, but does he have to have the word 'awesome' in every sentence or paragraph he speaks?! You may use these ideas in fan fictions, but make sure you use it minimally. Keep those ideas you may have in relating to my previous rant to your mind, but if you want to make a fan fiction about those, keep their make-believe personalities in the show to a minimum. It may give the reader an idea that this event might actually happen. Very sorry for my ranting here, but I just want to help the people out there who have a bit of a problem in writing Hetalia fan fics. Hope this doesn't offend anyone.

On Prussia's subject, what I don't understand more than the overuse of the word awesome is why so many fans think he's too much of a pervert. For Heaven's sake, he was the Teutonic Knights' representive and was actually shown to be religious. Fangirls' out to keep their own perverted tendecies away from the intrepretation of the characters. '-_-

hetaliahsotclub a lot of your points are wrong and verry opininized. some people like reader inserts. and if you want charecters to be relistic you would not complain about language. and it is in charecter for the charecters to use japenese because it is in the anime. and oc are perfictly fine. and multishipping fanfics are awesome. and theres a little thing called OOC in the fanfiction cominity

YaoiLover555 These are fan fictions! As in fictional stories which fans make to create their own interactions between the characters. They don't have rules! xD So I agree with the person above. ^^ Although I agree that warnings are important if sensitive topics are portrayed... However to be honest I've never seen such topics without the appropriate forewarning... Remember people mostly write fan fiction and role-play for fun... I'm sorry if their entertainment doesn't meet your desired expectations. .-.

Heather2026 Okay, a lot what you said is okay to have in fanfictions. Because first off, it's their fanfictions. And the definition of fanfiction is: "fiction written by a fan of, and featuring characters from, a particular TV series, movie, etc." People have every right to make their fanfiction about whatever they want. Pedophilia is wrong, I will admit. But if people decide to use a character in their plot and decide for it to be a pervert/pedophile, then so be it. If it offends you that badly, then leave the fanfiction page and pretend it never happened. People can do whatever the fuck they want. It's also fine if people use 'Doitsu' in their fanfic, or any other Japanese terms because Hetalia is a Japanese animation. Also, if the fanfics have terms in Italian, French, German, etc, that should be perfectly fine. They are using some terms to make the fanfiction seem more realistic. MOSTLY ALL fanfics I read had warnings if needed. What really grinds my gears is that half of the stuff-- No wait, most of what you had wrote was terribly inaccurate. Ocs that are Mary-sues are annoying, I get where you are saying that. But some Ocs that have any relations with canon characters are okay. AND EVERYONE: PLEASE LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PERVERT AND A PEDOPHILE. France is a pervert, but not a pedophile! A pedophile is someone who rapes someone or is a predator against those younger than them.. A pervert is someone who has 'naughty thoughts' or sometimes take a joke the wrong way. Please learn the difference.

Lina_Miramel I disagree with some of the points. I don't see any problem with OCs, it's the authors choice after all, it's their story therefore their form of express themselves. Also about the historical inaccurate fics, it is a fiction, and fiction have the artistic freedom to be as inaccurate historically as they want, many books, series and movies already done this before, is not unusual. About number 10, I also don't read harem fics and I understand that you might have a monogamic mindset, but it would be nice of you to understand that there is a relationship between more than two people, and not just a open one, it's called polyamory. That being said, I don't have any problem with harem fics, I just don't read it since I'm very monogamic as well. And lastly, about the Reader Insert fics, just do with them what I do with the harem fics, don't read it if you don't like. But if they exist, then there's a lot of people who does, all we should do is respect them.

toreax I disagree with several of your points, as they are very opinionated and biased. I’m exceptionally bored, so I’m going to use some skills I learned in an argumentative class I took years ago. 1- Opinionated. I don’t want to sound awful, so yes, in my opinion, it’s common courtesy writers should include warnings for acts or thoughts that are (societal and sociological) universal/generalized triggers. But not everyone knows specific triggers for certain people. Ex: Someone could be triggered by the word “whore” while someone else won’t be. Not everyone is going to put a triggering warning for the word “whore” as explicit language because no one can read others’ minds. 2- Yes, if you are writing anything historical, what you have not lived through, or something you have not directly/indirectly experienced, you need to do research at the expense of in accuracy and personal offense. But, only in real-life scenarios. Ex: Fantasy AU’s. Also, many writers focus on the direct happenings in Hetalia because they are writing a Hetalia fanfiction, not original historical fiction. 3- Opinionated. Writers can use seme/uke, excessively if they want, even if Japan is or isn’t in the equation, because they are writing fiction. “Submissive” and “dominant” exists in the West. You could say “submissive” is “uke” and “dominant” is “seme” like how you can say the “top” is “dominant” and “bottom” is “submissive.” They are all contextual nouns. Some people say those words but could mean something different, as well, because it’s their interpretation or word choice. It’s like how some people say “top” over “pitcher” and “bottom” over “catcher.” “Seme” and “uke” isn’t a Japanese tradition - they’re nouns. Yaoi fanfiction/doujinshi is a media fictional genre of homoeroticism, not shounen-ai. The reason yaoi is called yaoi because it contains sex. Ex: there are doujinshis where the characters don’t say anything, they just have homosexual sex. 4- Yes. Though, not everyone can have a complete understanding of a disorder unless you have it. And, even then every human brain/body is different and experiences different symptoms/different levels of symptoms. Just because someone with a disorder has/thinks something doesn’t mean it’s the exact same for someone else with the disorder. Everyone’s brain chemistry is different. Yes, you have to fit every credential to be diagnosed with a disorder (presently in the DSM-5), but not every credential is experienced the same. Ex: Schizophrenia. Someone may hear voices that tell them to cause harm, while someone else may hear voices that don’t tell them to cause harm. 5- Opinionated. People can have OC’s. They can write their OC’s however they want. It’s fiction. 6- Opinionated. You used the word “would” in here, because it is not fact. Not all Europeans are proud of their culture “no matter the country.” Culture is “the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group.” Culture is “particular.” If someone who practices that culture does believe/act/thinks something does not mean one has to be proud of it. Ex: “Culture encompasses religion.” Not everyone is proud of their religion. Another ex: The Spanish Inquisition. Part of their culture was, to be brief, to enact violence on people who were not Catholic. Not everyone was proud of it. It’s up to a writer’s interpretation of the characters of what their saying/doing in their fanfiction. You can’t take away direct quotes from the anime, but you can interpret it differently than someone else. If someone wants to write/think America should say “Iggy” in their own fanfiction, they can; and, someone can have a character say “That’s good!” while someone else can make them say “That’s bad!” It’s fiction. 7- Opinionated. Writers can write whatever they want, because it is fiction. If they want to make everyone gay, they can. 8- Opinionated. You’re pointing out generalized stereotypes that are common in the fandom. It’s how some writers decide to write and/or interpret the characters. 9- Opinionated. Write it however you want - it’s fiction. Just because you can’t understand a language doesn’t mean no one can write in said language. 10- Opinionated. Just because you don’t want to see multishipping doesn’t mean a writer can’t write multishipping. “No self-respecting person would stay in a relationship with someone who's blatantly cheating on them right before their eyes.” This is opinionated as well. You use the word “should” in the following sentence because it is an opinion. If a writer writes a character having no reaction, that’s the writer’s choice. “If two people are together, there's no room for a third person unless it's an open relationship.” Opinionated. “which I personally don't consider a relationship at all.” You blatantly state you’re stating your opinion. 11- Opinionated. People can write reader insert fanfiction if they want, because it’s fiction. You say, “bothers me.” You state “me.” Opinion. I’m also going to state my opinion, because you said “feel free to say things you dislike.” I dislike you perception of writers. I think you should change the title to “Things That Hetalia Fangirls Should Not Include In FanFictons.” I think you should maybe include “in my opinion” at he end of the title or article description. I think you should change, in the title, “Fangirls” to “Fanfiction Writers,” because the Hetalia fandoms fanfiction is not just distributed by females. I think several things you say is what makes this fandom - and other fandoms - toxic. I think several of your stated beliefs are toxic, in fandom and real life. I think you should do research (especially for #10). I think you should not be blatantly rude about some of you points; I think you are using a personal word-choice defense mechanism to state your opinion and make writers feel a certain way towards their own writing. I think you should take a step back and evaluate your opinions and beliefs before expressing your opinions and beliefs to other people, especially on the internet. Here are some facts: 1- You cannot control what other people think/choose to think/do. 2- What you find “horrible” isn’t horrible to someone else. 3- No one thinks/does/(and especially)write like someone else. Your words are your words, and the structure of your words are yours as well. 4- Every writer grows differently, because not everyone’s brains are the same.
