I think Lupin was the best fatherly figure. He guided Harry well, both morally and in terms of talent in his fight against Voldemort.

Dumbledore definitely pointed Harry in the right direction several times, but they didn't have the affection that should be present in a father/son type relationship. He was more a mentor than a father. Also, I know Dumbledore did care about Harry, but a lot of what he said to Harry was just to use him as a weapon against Voldemort. He knew Harry was the only way to get rid of the Dark Lord.

I agree with nessie-eska about Hagrid and Sirius though. Sirius saw too much James in Harry and was more a friend than a good father figure. He was a great wizard and person but all the time he spent in Azkaban and plotting his revenge didn't have the best effect on his mind. Love the guy to death though, don't get me wrong. =P

I think Harry and Sirius' relashionship is the closest to parenthood. Lupin would definitley be the best father, you know, the most caring, and protectable. But Sirius just reminds at lot of James, so that would be closest.

Sirius was cooler but Remus taught him more important things...Remus thought about things before he acted and he'd be a better father I think
