I'm divided. Considering all the incredibly strong, intelligent, skilled female characters in the series, it's hard to call Fleur's poor performance sexist because I'm sure that wasn't JK's intent.
However, the combination of her abysmally poor performance, the fact that she's the only female contestant and her overtly feminine ways is something that has grated on me. Of all the characters/plot lines that JK constructed, Fleur's is the only one I find disappointing. She's the embodiment of that stereotype of 'ultra-feminine girls = incompetence'. I think she could have been written better. In such a way that she was at least worthy competition for the other contestants. She didn't have to lose quite so badly.
ahahahaha lol at first, i thought the question said "Do you find it SEXY that Fleur did so badly in the Triwizard Tournament"...but no..i dont find it sexist
Nope. You can't have every single female character portrayed as strong and just as good as or better than their male counterparts simply because they are female. Sometimes women don't do as well as men, sometimes we fail miserably. I agree with BlackHound, there's no need to over-analyse. What's next? Was is racist that all the contestants were Caucasian?
