A breathtaking first look of grown-up Harry and Ginny Potter (nee Weasley) and their young son, Albus, has been revealed by the folks behind the forthcoming eighth Harry Potter story,
— a stage play debuting in London in a week, set 19 years after the pre-epilogue events of
The trio is played by Jamie Parker (Harry), Poppy Miller (Ginny), and Sam Clemmett (Albus Severus). The first look was revealed on
along with a tease that more wizarding characters — presumably, Paul Thornley’s Ron and Noma Dumezweni’s Hermione — will be unveiled over the next few days.
The first look at Harry, Ginny, and Albus in costume was accompanied by a few key interview quotes that shed light on plot points in the mysterious project, which we currently know dabbles in the famous legacy of the Potter family and how it trickles down to Albus as he enters the fray at Hogwarts.
Rowling offered a few comments on her feelings towards seeing her creations in costume once more. Of Parker-as-Potter, she summed up, “He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right.”
To the maternal, cozy Ginny, Rowling said, “I think a lot of people would like to have Poppy’s Ginny for a mother. Kind and cool, exactly as I imagined her.” (For her part, Miller praised her character’s “fabulous haircut” and compared her jumper to a Pygmy Puff, so fans essentially have no reason not to already love her.)
And in regards to Albus, Rowling opted to stay mum: “There’s much I could say about Sam-as-Albus, but we’d be into spoiler territory so quickly I’ll just say we couldn’t have cast better.” At the beginning of the show, Albus will be in hand-me-down Hogwarts robes from his older brother, James Sirius Potter — an idea that apparently came from young Clemmett.
