harry potter Pergunta

I was leitura someone's fã fiction when i came across something that annoyed me. It was also a little funny how ignorant people can be.

I was leitura a non-romantic (friendship/adventure) Harry and Hermione fic when I come across the line "Virginia Weasley, the youngest weasley child..."
The nerve really... I'm not saying its not a common mistake, It isn't something SO big I'll get worked up but i just wanted to know if you agree to this:
If you are going to wright a fã fic, you should have the correct information, shouldn't you?
For those who are confused, The writer thought that Ginevra's name was Virginia.

I think i owe it to the writter, i send her a review 9i was polite) that she should check up on charecters first. she replied that she intnded to make Harry not know her full name and call her Virginia, Though that is even mais confusing since she did not mention in a summary or anywheer that it was AU and the summary did not mention anything that suggested that Harry Potter "couldn't care less about the Weasley's" as the writer says.

Of course, they should check their information first, there are enough sites like the HP Lexicon or the HP Wiki, Mugglenet, or even the Wikipedia pages themselves, to provide information.

As a fanfic writer myself, I make the effort whenever I have the slightiest doubt.

However, like Bri said, in some places, "Ginny" is short for "Virginia". No wonder this had been their first reflex. You may still write a review to point out the mistake - in a courteous fashion, of course.

Besides, there are worse mistakes in my opinion : like misspelling characters' names, for example, while the names are well-known, and/or omitting capitals for proper names.

Plus the fanfic writers that write badly, despising punctuation and grammar and spelling alike, mistreating the language (which often is their mother tongue...), all these grate on my nerves, much mais than a mere error on a name like the one you described (which is annoying as writers are supposed to know their subject). Anybody, including me, can make mistakes and despite careful attention, some of these mistakes escape our corrections. But some "writers" are either immature or lazy (or both) to bother checking this out, alas. They don't even realize they need a thorough beta-reading, whatever the language they use. Well, just my opinion as a writer.

Depending on when the fic was written, it may not have been an ignorant mistake. We actually don't find out until later in the series (I want to say book five?) that 'Ginny' is short for 'Ginevera.' And some places 'Ginny' is short for 'Virginia.' So, if they wrote the fic before the information was given, and live in a place where Ginny/Virginia is mais common than Ginny/Ginevera, then it wouldn't be an ignorant mistake at all.

If you are going to wright a fã fic, you should have the correct information, shouldn't you?
Depends on the type of fic you're writing, generally. I mean, yes, you should get the characters name right (if the information is out there at the time the fic was published), but some "correct" information (like, Dumbledore dying or Lupin being straight) is mais than allowed to be stretched, skewed, or just taken out for the fanfiction to work.

*correction* she DID mention it was AU but didn't mention about Harry not caring about the weasley's or not knowing them hardly... which should be mentioned since it is not at all that common. And yes, ur right not always ignorant, but she should have cleared it out for the readers don't you think?

It's ok not to like that kind of fic. Just make sure you don't read any AU fanfics. I personally prefer the AU ones myself as I don't like some of the canhão pairings.

lol Jerry ! And in the famous cartoon featuring a cat and a mouse, the rato is called Harry, I presume ?! Thinking of it, with the cat called Tom, that always tries to get the rato but fails miserably, looks like our main duo in the HP saga. Now that would be funny.
