Harry is half blood because his father (James) was pureblood, having a father and mother that both magical and come from magical parents. His grandparents are also the same.
His mother (Lily) comes from a Muggle family and she is magical. This is because generations earlier a Squib (born to a magical family but not magical at all) married a Muggle and several generations after Lily was born with magic.
This is how Harry is half blood he has a pureblood father and muggleborn mother.

Harry Potter is a HALF-BLOOD! This is because the basis of being pure-blooded of whatever is in your family! If your parents are both of wizarding ancestry, like Malfoy's, you are pure blooded. But if one of your parents is a muggle-born and one is of wizarding origin, you are a half-blood. If both your parents are muggles, you are a muggle-born wizard.
If the basis of being a pure blood is the ability to do magic, then why is Hermione a mudblood? Is is when she eventually gets married, Rose and Hugo are pure bloods? NO!
So, that is it. It is based on you ancestry, not on your ability to do magic!!!! :)

being pureblood isnt the ability to do magic, its who your parents were, well What they were.
He isn't, he's pureblood because his parents are wizard/witch:P Half-blood is when one parent is a muggle& the other is a pureblood, like Lord Voldemort. His mother was a witch but his father was a muggle.
no but Harry is still a half blood. Hermione is muggle born and she marries Ron and has children, but are the kids "pureblood"? NO, look at the Malfoy's
Then maybe it also includes grandparents... maybe he is a half-blood then because of his mothers parents? But then where is the line drawn? Grandparents... great grandparents?
Harry is half-blood because his father was pureblood and his mother a muggle-born. You might be thinking: "He has two magical parents! Isn't he pureblood?" Well, according to the Harry Potter Wiki, a pureblood is a witch or wizard with all-magical grandparents, at the very least. Harry is not pureblood because his maternal grandparents would be muggles (Lily's parents).

So Even though he has two magical parents, he is halfblood like Voldemort, who has one magical parent and one muggle born?
In chapter 17 of Chamber of Secrets Tom Riddle calls Harry a half-blood, "There are strange likenesses between us, after all. Even you must have noticed. Both half-bloods..."
Being a half-blood is in your family.. A magical person pertains to one born of a magic family, one that are naturally wizards, unlike Harry, whose mother can do magic but the rest of her family cannot.
JK Rowling her self said, "To people like Lucius Malfoy, a Muggle-born is as bad as a Muggle, so Harry is considered Half-Blood because of his mother's parents. In effect, a Muggle Grandparent "pollutes" the blood. "

I see. I think that Jk's thinking is just a little flawed here, because if your grandparents were pure but your dad married a muggle, wouldn't that make you a quarter-blood? Or wouldn't that make mais sense?
Anyway, Harry isn't the half-blood prince... Snape is. He made up the nick name for himself because he was proud of being half blood.

I am sorry to tell you that I know who this prince is. In the COS, Tom riddle mentioned that he and Harry are alike, that is to say,they are half-bloods.This made me ask the question.
JK's thinking isn't flawed at all; its genius. She based it apon how pureblood families on the dark side like the Malfoys would think. It's like how a lot of people call Obama black, even though he is only 1/2 that race.
Yeh, i though someone might pull me up on that, but however much i hate to admit it.... everyone's thinking is flawed in one way or another! That includes jk's. It doesn't make her any less of a genius, you might even say that my thinking is flawed for saying her thinking is flawed. But, you know, just my opinion.
thats what i was wondering! what if say a muggle born married a pure blood and had a halfblood, then if the halfblood married a muglleborn, then wouldnt it be a quarter blood? lol
Actually both Tom Riddle (Ie, Voldemort,) and Harry both are half-bloods. "Half-blood' just doesn't mean Muggle+Pureblood . It could also be MUGGLEBORN+Pureblood like HArry
Since Lily Potter was Muggle-born and James Potter was (presumably? [I can't remember nor be stuffed checking right now]) a Pureblood, there is no way for Harry to be a Pureblood. Half-blood is the only way to describe him, since no other name was given por J.K Rowling.
I am of the belief that Ms. Rowling didn't intend to confuse anyway por Harry's heritage, and the books plainly explain why Harry was Half-blood.
It doesn't seem to matter that Lily was a witch, because Muggle-borns are placed as lowly as Muggles in the Harry Potter universe.
I think 'pure-bloods' only believe people to be a pure-blood if both their parents are pure-blood, because Lily was a muggle born then they'd believe Harry to be a haf-blood. This would be the reason that Pure-bloods are dying out. Similar to ancient Greece, where to be a citizen both of your parents had to be citizens too.
Harry's mother Lily, had muggle parents. (remember, Harry's horrid muggle Aunt petúnia is Lily's sister. :) And from what I can recall, Harry's father James is pureblood.

Actually Pure-Bloods is a generation of full witches and wizards, no muggles involved. Since Harry's mom was a muggleborn her parents were muggles. Since James who was a pure blood marries a muggle born he broke the pure bloodline since he married Lily who had muggle parents.
His father was a pure blood and his mother was of a muggle descent. That makes him half-blood. As for 3/4 blood, that would be Harry's kids with Ginny.
No, sorry. In COS AND OotP it says (and explains how/why) Harry is a half-blood. Snape is the Half-Blood Prince. Maybe you should take your own conselhos and read the books and watch the movies.

Since Voldemort's ideology is an obvious allegory of Nazism, it is not surprising that his categorisation should follow the Nurenberg Laws, whereby someone with one or two Jewish grandparents was a Mischling (mixed blood). Harry's mother Lily was a witch but also a mud-blood: her parents were Muggles, which was enough to make Harry a half-blood in Voldemort's eyes.
