This is only how society perceives Goths to be like.
But of course, you are not meant to be something that does not fit to your ethical and moral beliefs (concerning the "badass destruction", I guess you mean "violent and criminal behaviour") or your personality (regarding "being full of emotion").
Being goth is just clothes, music, books, etc. It's style, not personality. I'm a pretty happy person. I have a reasonable amount of friends. I'll be nice to anyone who's nice to me, as long as they don't do anything that pisses me off. I am totally goth, though (a bit of a goth/geek, I guess is what you would call me). :)
