I have a difficult time choosing between Rhett, Scarlett, and Melanie because all three were amazing in different ways. Rhett was amazing because he wasn't what he seemed. He projected a rough and crude image, but he had a coração of gold and would do anything for those he loved (i.e. when he roubou a horse to get Scarlett and Melanie out of Atlanta), quite possibly the most sensitive character of GWTW, aside from Ashley. Scarlett was amazing because of her drive to survive. She could be perceived as "bitchy", but she only did what was necessary to persevere, she was not malicious. She was dealt the most horrible of situations, and still managed to thrive, the most determined character of GWTW. Finally, Melanie was amazing because of her strength. She was kind and generous, and seemed meek and mild to the other characters, but she had mais strength than anyone realized(i.e. her complete defense of Scarlett to the point that she kicked India out of her início for speaking ill of her, her contempt and disdain for the Yankee soldier, her comforting Rhett after Scarlett's fall). All three of the other main characters leaned on her for support, and when she died, the others crumbled. The book does an exemplary job of showing this. She was one of the strongest of the lead characters. I believe that all three were incredible in their own way, and all three brought important aspects to the novel and movie. Neither would be the same without one of those three characters. Therefore, I can't choose between Rhett, Scarlett, and Melanie. I amor them all!
