No not at all. The only similarity is that the characters are high school students and that musical numbers are used. I feel that the glee characters are much mais realistic and relatable than the juvenile "disney" characters. Not to offend anyone who likes HSM, but I feel like their musical numbers just feel really rehearsed and kind of cheesy. glee is kind of a smarter and mais adult version of the concept of HSM.
So, just to be clear, my answer is a resounding "Hells to the naw!"
I think Cory Monteith put it the best: "It's as if High School Musical got had been punched in the gut and had it's lunch money taken..."
I can't find it anymore, but he also said once that he hates it when glee is compared to High School Musical. It was something along the lines of, "High School Musical is okay. They're so happy though, and everyone sorts out their feelings in the end, and no one makes fun of each other. In Glee, we make fun of ourselves AND other people."
