I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Game of Thrones scouting Girona, Spain for season 6 | Watchers on the mural | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
is not even done, but the show already has its eye on locations for next year.
have been scouting the northeastern Spanish city of Girona as a shooting site for season 6 of the show. Though officially there is no deal,
‘s sources at the Costa Brava Tourism Board have confirmed the show will be filming there for September and October. Their TV3 reports that shooting would take place over 3 weeks.
reports production reps were “known to have expressed interest in the Cathedral and had “visited the attic of the monumental church and its plans.” The elaborate cathedral (pictured above) is a stunning piece of architecture both inside and out, and presents some intriguing possibilities. The climate of Girona is cooler than that of Seville, and it seems not likely to be another Dorne-related city.
They also took a boat trip around the Costa Brava, the coastal region of Girona. No word on whether it was a scouting trip or simply a pleasure cruise but I can think of seafarers that fans would love to see.
Another area in Girona that might serve the show well is the former Jewish ghetto named the Call that is a tourist attraction these days. The Call, with its narrow streets, would work well for a number of city settings.
This is exciting news. What do you think, readers? What do you see happening in Girona?

Hmmmm … more Dorne ? Starfall perhaps
I think the cathedral might mean season 6 will have a big faith presence.
Most likely Cersei’s post-walk and Margaery’s trial takes place here including the fight with the mountain and their champion
Definitely looks like that could make a good Citadel.
I would like Oldtown, but it just looks SO religious.
Or another Essos city like Volantis again, or Lys, but this time with Dany and her armies marching to Westeros ?
… Highgarden ? Casterly Rock ? With George RR Martin saying in an interview we would likely see one of these cities ?
My money is on Oldtown and the Citadel. Why else would Sam had told Gilly about other than to introduce the idea?
Wow this is exciting! Wasn’t expecting this sort of news so early! My guess is
They could CGI some changes to the buildings to make them look less so.
I’ve been to Girona. It’s beautiful, a nice quaint little place, and spent a good deal of time wandering around the Call, which is really interesting, because it had a longtime surviving Jewish community there that was a ghetto, of course, but retains a lot of history. Interesting place that they’re looking into, overall, I’d say.
Of course, since no one else has said this, I’ll have to do it:
It looks very nice. I for one have thought that the Water Gardens were very visually attractive (winklepickers [roach stompers I think they are called in the USA] notwithstanding). There has been mention in this year’s storyline of
Maester Aemon being unwell so we could get Sam and Gilly’s incredible journey (I don’t think that’s a spoiler).
I feel Citadel is the only possibility unless they are interested in the interior only which makes it hard to say.
Three weeks of filming would seem to imply major new location. That’s more time than the allotted to Water Gardens filming. Only new city we know of would be Oldtown. Coastal scouting could be for setting up Ironborn attacks?
Of course, who knows what other locations could be popping up in season 6 we don’t even know about yet. I don’t feel like there should be too many all-new locations, but I could be wrong.
Why does location scouting in Girona confirm Deepwood Motte?
Will most likely be Braavos or Kings Landing.
I’d like to see a certain flashback to a tower in Dorne.
Oh man – go on google images and look up “The Call – Girona” it just screams Old Town! … plus the fact that Sam told Gilly about it in a recent episode …
CGI out some of the more overtly Roman Catholic stain glass windows and a few camera angles tricks so the alter isn’t in frame and it’s totally The Citadel. The more I think about, what real world location could you use to stand-in for The Citadel besides a cathedral and kind of hard to find one that does not look religious? Not that you are one, but seems some other folks are so hesitant to think Samwell, Gilly and her baby son-brother would sail off to Oldtown so soon especially without the baby switcheroo stuff but I can totally how GoT would do it without that particular motivator.
