Fort Minor’s debut album ‘The Rising Tied’ is set to drop on November 21st/22nd, and mtv have the album to listen to, streaming it’s entirety. I took a listen to the album earlier today, and impressed doesn’t begin to touch this.

Rating: ****/5

Remember The Name (Featuring Styles of Beyond)
The first track released onto the internet, this is an introduction to Fort Minor - with Mike, Ryu and Takbir rhyming about themselves in third person. The beat can get a bit tedious after a long time of listening, but no geral, global this fits in to the album nicely and is a nice introduction to the album.

Right Now (Featuring Black Thought of The Roots and Styles of Beyond)
Likened to the track “Spraypaint and Ink Pens” from the ‘Fort Minor: We Major’ Mixtape, this is one of the most lyrically competent songs on the album. Inspired por the film ‘Shortcuts’, Right Now is a story-telling track with catchy yet reflective choruses. Talking about the difficulties faced everyday por people right across the globe, this is a hard-hitting track about real life around the world.

Petrified
Sarcastic and cocky would describe the vibe behind this song. As the lead single behind the album in North America, Mike is letting you know that he can stand with the hip-hop elite and can hold his own. The lyrics are cheesy yet funny, the música is bouncy and light - no geral, global this is a great party track with satirical edge, just the way it was intended.

Feel Like início (Featuring Styles of Beyond)
A rustic and caustic beat mixed with reflective and powerful lyrics, this is a song about being away from início and away from the people you would rather be with. Each artist sees this song through the eyes of another, with Ryu talking of the life of a homeless person - another strong sng lyrically, but the chorus leaves something to be desired - a bit too bland and the only let down on this song.

Where’d You Go? (Featuring azevinho, holly Brook and Jonah Matranga)
Written por Mike about the stresses and strains of life away from home, this is a very hard-hitting track. Mike’s wife has been said to cry every time she hears this song, and rightfully so, as Mike’s blunt yet stylistic raps drift forcefully over the hard beat. azevinho, holly Brook and Jonah Matranga are the real stars that shine on this track though, the vocal mixture of the two drifting softly over the beat defies anything beyond words - the vocals sounded childlike and emotional, just the way they need to be.

In Stereo
This is one for blasting out of your car stereo at full volume on a fine summers dia in the city - a hard and powerful beat with a synthetically charged beat. Backing vocals on the chorus give the track a very dark yet upbeat feel, and no geral, global this is another good party track. A slow geléia, geleia if you will.

Back início (Featuring Common and Styles of Beyond)
One of the most upbeat and mais recognisably hip-hop styled beats on the album, mixed with a mais R&B driven drum line - this has the potential, like most tracks on the album to be a very popular and respected single from the project. Takbir and Common provide smooth flows and great vocals. Not one of the best tracks on the album as again, the chorus lets the song down a little, and the beat can get a bit repetitive after a while.

Cigarettes
Another literal yet very metaphorically lyrically driven track - Comparing the música industry to that of the tobacco industry, telling of the way that música apaixonados are fed lies and the same things over again, but buy it because it like an addiction to do so. The beat on this track fits perfectly with the way the lyrics are presented as the strings and choir mould perfectly to the tracks structure.

Believe Me (Featuring Bobo and Styles of Beyond)
The first international single is an upbeat and driving track that combines a very popish feeling chorus with fast and simple yet effective verses from both Mike and the guys from SOB. The latin drums give this song a very jazzy feel and the drum solo at the bridge is something to be admired.

Get Me Gone
A big f–k you to the record industry and the Linkin Park haters, this is an amusing and funny track about how Warner tried to make the band do things that they weren’t willing to do, and how magazines and journalists tried to fog them off as a manufactured band.

High Road (Featuring John Legend)
A bouncy and light hearted follow on from “Get Me Gone” sees Mike talking about how he disregards the bad comments and ignorant critics that he runs into. John Legend puts his signature Neo-Soul twist on the song in the chorus, mking this song prime single material.

Kenji
A song about the Japanese Internment during the war, this song is written about his fathers experience during the time. The song features vocals from both Mike’s father and aunt. Though the song has no chorus each verse is mais hard-hitting and lyrically exquisite than it’s predecessor. The beat is quiet yet loud and the strings are exemplary.

Red To Black (Featuring Kenna, Jonah Matranga and Styles of Beyond)
The most Linkin Park’ish track on the CD, a nice violão, guitarra riff mixed with a hard and heavy drum beat. Jonah and Kenna’s vocal contribution drifts away melodically into the música whilst Mike, Ryu and Takbir spit their verses in turn. A nice track both lyrically and musically.

The Battle (Featuring Celph Titled)
The biggest disappointment on the record is a track with so much mais potential than it is given in it’s 30 segundo time-frame. Celph Titled doesn’t get enough time to show his true talents, and although the track was originally recorded a lot longer, it will remain a mystery why Mike decided to cut it so short

Slip Out The Back (Featuring Mr. Hahn)
This is a mellow track to finish the album off, though unfortunately Joe Hahn’s contribution is not heard to enough of an extent to be able to give he the props he really does deserve. The lyrics on this track are good, and it is one of the strongest and catchy beats on the album - a very nice track to finish on.
