Where Was Tex From?

I think the joke was that the reason Forrest couldn't remember where Tex was from because Tex was really from Texas whereas all the other guys were from places totally different what they were named. That's what I think.

Honestly it does not say where he was from, but in reality the joke was that he was from TExas.

It's also probably a reference to Oliver Stone's 1986 movie Platoon, also about the Vietnam War, in which one of the platoon's men is named "Tex."

The joke is that Dallas and Cleaveland are actually named that. Tex is a nickname for the guy who is obviously from Texas.
