From Wikipedia:

"Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately."

On Fanpop, spamming basically means posting unrelated and annoying content to spots, generally in an attempt to get people to go visit a different site (so that site can make money). Often, companies set up fake profiles, and then use them to post links to their own websites on Fanpop. You've probably seen spam, if not here, then definitely on youtube - posts along the lines of "Go here to buy this thing!" or "Click to watch this completely unrelated vid!" or "heyyy I'm a super hot girl that lives in ur neiborhood wanna come hang out?!?!!11?? Here's my fake phone number!!".

To avoid getting reported for spam, just don't add unrelated content to spots. If you're on the glee spot, don't post a link to a site where you can buy Justin Bieber merchandise. If you're at the Twilight spot, don't leave comments with links to Lady Gaga vids. You get the picture.

Well, if you're adding hundreds of pictures without giving them proper names or etiquetas or anything, for the sole purpose of getting medals, that could count as spam, too. People also use the word "spam" to mean sending/posting tons of content, generally with no regard for quality, to one place in a very short period of time. So if you're adding the same two pictures over and over again to the same spot, that counts as spam, as well.

People have their own perceptions of what spam is. For me, it's a countless number of stupid comments or enviado work all at once.
