As you can see por my perfil picture, you already know that I am a fã of her. There are a lot of people that are indifferent towards her for many reasons, and I feel that I have the right to defend the reasons, as MANY have done relentless, continuous defense rants on Ariel, Belle, Merida, Rapunzel, etc.

Like I have said, there are many reasons why people dislike her and think she is so much worse than the other heroines, and the 3 biggest reasons why this is, is because:
1. She is a damsel who does not do anything and is selfish
2. She is a slut
3. She chose Phoebus over Quasimodo
, and I can honestly see why some may think this, and you have every right to, but some praise the others for doing similar or the exact same things. Anyways, let's get to the first point...

She is a Damsel in Distress who is Selfish and does nothing.
To be honest, I think this is the most ridiculous point of of the three of them, and here is why. Almost EVERY SINGLE HEROINE is always in a point of crisis where they need help, and what is so wrong with getting help? We as humans and as individuals are incapable of doing everything por ourselves, and being put in a situation like this bods you with the person that got you out of the situation/saved you. If we as humans did not need help and can do EVERY SINGLE THING for ourselves, than there will be no point in having relationships with others.

There are moments where she needs to be saved, and she saves others, but she actually does mais saving than Quasi, Phoebus, and most of the other heroines. Let's first start with the comparison to the other heroines.
We amor them, but let's be honest. They were not in the position where they can save themselves or others. Also, the time they made is also to their disadvantage.

None of the three were in any position where they had to save others or even themselves, really. Snow did run in the forest after she got the news that queen was gonna kill her, but she had a lot of help form the animals; they helped her find a house, clean the house, and sent for the dwarves when she was poisoned) , and the dwarves helped her for being the Prince Charming's in killing the Queen. Prince actually saved her with a kiss and they led happily ever after.
cinderela had A LOT of help as well. The mice made her dress for her, and for getting the key so she can try on the slipper, the fairy godmother got her to and from the ball, gave her a new dress, and the opportunity to lift her spirits back up. Again, did not save herself.
Aurora is pretty self explanatory; Sleeping Beauty.
 The "I want more" gals
The "I want more" gals

Ariel is the first heroine to actually do damage and save others; she saved Eric when he drowned, and saved him from being stroke por Ursula (also killing her eels), but also needs a lot of help in the climax to kill Ursula (which she did not do at all), and with Sebastian for kiss the Girl, and Esme still has her beat.....
Belle is somewhat of an interesting case, as she did mais saving than being saved. She saved Beast from being killed por the lobo battle por taking him back, broke the curse with her confessing her amor for him, and trading places with her father, but needed to be saved from the wolves, and was ALLOWED por Beast to leave, but she is pretty damn close to Esme.
jasmim did not save anyone, point blank. She needed to be saved por Al when her arm was about to be cut off, and in the climax where she almost drowned in the sand. She did get herself out of the palace?
Most of the Late Renaissance girls.
Most of the Late Renaissance girls.

She even beats out these three. While Pocahontas is never really in the position where she needed to be saved, her indecisiveness makes her do a whole lot of nothing until the very end when she intervened in John's clubbing to the death.
Megara kind of owns that she is a DID in a sarcastic way. She needed to be saved por Nessus (when she met Hercules and the blue thing was about to rape her), and Hercules got her soul when she died, but she also did a very heroic thing with sacrificing her life for Herc.
Jane does not really save anyone...... She taught Tarzan about the world, and she does try to help in the climax, but she was just knocked out por Clayton.
What I do have to say is that Esme has nothing on these girls...
They are bomb and barely if ever need help getting out of their situations, and save everyone A LOT. They redefined the strong heroines (not that the others are not strong).

I am por no means saying the ones I listed above are Damsels in Distresses, which are less than generic characters with no uniqueness and given no personality, and literally only is in distress to get saved, whereas ALL of the heroines mentioned above have unique and distinct personalities, which DIDs do not have. Now back to my point...

Yes Jayden-G, tell them why I kick all them bitches asses
Yes Jayden-G, tell them why I kick all them bitches asses

Yes, while Esmeralda does receive Quasimodo's help to escape the tower, also needing his help in the climax where she was about to be burned at stake, and even por Phoebus por claiming sanctuary for her, she actually does A LOT for herself and others. She saved BOTH Quasimodo and Phoebus from being hung in the Court of Miracles, set Quasimodo loose from even mais embarrassment (though stopped it as soon as she realizes it was going on) standing up for him, and saved Phoebus when he was about to be beheaded por one of Frollo's guards, and from drowning in the river with an Arqueiro through his chest. So if she is a DID, then most of the other heroines are too because she does A WHOLE LOT and is given a personality and mais to do than being saved. Oh, and she also got herself out of the situation with the guards in the beginning and ran, and hid in the church after the Feast of Fools, so I do not really think this point is that valid. I also do not get why people call her selfish for not giving herself in to Frollo, when Belle did the exact same thing, but since it is Belle, it is fine.

2. She is a slut and a stripper
Since I AM not biased as a peson, I will give yall some points for this...
She shook her money makers, and worked the pole in this performance, so she WAS a stripper here.
She shook her money makers, and worked the pole in this performance, so she WAS a stripper here.

This is undeniable at the Topsy Turvy performance, but for the scenes in the beginning that we saw, was she doing this? NO. She had on her clothes, which was not slutty at all, and was playing the instrument that I forgot the name of with another person, and was moving from side to side (if that). Since the Feast of Fools is a yearly holiday and they clearly made things opposite, than isn't that stripper performance a part of that as well?

Anyways, this slut thing is a bit ridiculous. A slut is someone who mas many sexual relations. WHAT proof do we have of he sleeping around and being a slut? First off, some strippers do not even have sex and may actually live normal lives outside of those clubs? Just a thought.

Some of the arguments I heard proving this (on the internet in general) is beyond stupid, like having 3 guys like her. Since when is mais than 1 person liking you being a slut? If she was screwing with all 3 of them than that would be one thing, but from the beginning (before her or Phoebus knew of Quasi's existence and interact with Frollo in the film), she already has a clear crush on him because of his heroic behavior to her in that opening scene (I will get to this in my last point).

Also, she tricked Quasi into doing what she wanted and used him. How did she trick Quasimodo in any way? HE showed her a way to leave without her even asking him, and she CONSTANTLY thanked him for everything he has done for her and he does so because she was nice to him and he found her like an angel. Oh, and there is that one where she kissed Quasi on the cheek. How many of you readers that have friends or family members that kiss people on the cheek? There must be AT LEAST 1? A lot of people do that for thanks, and not out of interest, and por the context it was used in the film, it was used as this and to shut him up (I will get mais into this at my last point too).

So I gave you all points to the stripper thing, but the shut thing? I am confused.

3. She chose Phoebus over Quasimodo
This is por far the biggest reason why people do not like her, Phoebus, or the couple. I already adressed some of this link, but there are some aspects that I did not go deep into because it was about Esme and Phoebus, and I ignored Quasi in that artigo because I was solely talking about Phoebus and Esmeralda.

We know how disney establishes their couples and such, so it was clear that these 2 were going to get together from the moment they laid eyes on one another, and they were already interested (remember, this took place before EITHER knew of Quasimodo). She liked his sudden heroicness, generosity, and niceness which was uncommon for her to see in the police, and he liked her sass and kick-assness. She was very interested and confused por him which I mentioned in an earlier article.

The whole purpose of Quasimodo's character is to feel sorry for him,and that is a job well done, but let's look at things from his perspective. He accidentally crashes in her tent while she was changing, and was smitten, EVEN when she was strutting her stuff on the pole, so he liked her from then. He gets embarrassed and then she intervenes to stop it and defends him.

They don't see one another until after Esme sings her song and he listens to it. She wants to talk to him, but he runs away. They talk about their lives and Frollo and such, and they form a friendship. So after he leaves, eh sings Heaven's Light which is about his amor for her. He calls her an angel, and dreams that she will care for him, which shows that he thinks she is perfect (when she so clearly isn't) and is not really turned on por her kickass-ness like Phoebus is. He likes he because she is nice to him, but would he have thought that if she was not pretty? I say that because he was smitten from when she was almost naked in the tent and is clearly a bit confused.

She takes his naivety and nervousness as nothing mais than that, as she realizes that he has a bad life, so there were no real hints that she knew that he was interested in her, and I still stand por this because after she saved them, she ran to Phoebus (probably a bit too excited about their makeout), and I do think it was wrong for her to ignore Quasi por this, but she was hugging up Phoebus (which he knew made him uncomfortable and Esme did not).

Lets talk about the infamous kiss. So Esme asks Quasi to do another favour and he agrees. She settled her boo down and they have a moment with her saying he could have been killed and his coração was almost pierced, he said it isn't and they have the longest disney kiss, with him watching. I have heard things like she did this to spite Quasi and whatnot; WHAT REASON DOES SHE HAVE TO SPITE HIM? ............................................ my points exactly. She was settling Phoebus down, so there really was no need for Quasi to watch, especially if he was not gonna help, which is very weird. Why didn't he help. He did not help set Phoebus so it is automatic indication that they thought he went elsewhere and that they were alone, when they actually were not.

Phoebus likes her for ALL of her, the naughty and the good, while Quasi idolizes her like an angel, and does not really care for her a bit violent, sexy, and badass thing. I think I have said enough about this in this artigo and my D Couple Analysis one on the issue.

Final Thoughts
I am not trying to change anyone's opinions on here, but I felt the need to defend her, as a lot of you defend other characters. I don't like it when it is bad for her to do something, but it is fine for another to do. I just wanted you to read why I feel this way. Comment about how you agree, think I am lunatic (but do it in a nice, mature way), or whatever. I really am interested in what you have to say.
