I don't think Mulan is a perfect movie but I can't really think of any major plot holes right now. The ancestors partying and the chickens running around in the ending is a little off after the heartwarming moment with Mulan and her father. But I'm not sure if that counts?

Tygers_Eye picked Yes! (If so, tell me about them in the comments.):
By order of the emperor, one man from every family must serve in the imperial army. And yet, when Mulan gets there, there are at most 30 men. That's how many families there are in the entire kingdom? And then when they make it to the Tung Shao Pass, there are 12 at most. What happened to the other 17? Did they die on the way?

Even when I was a kid, I thought the recruit's army was extremely small.

(If it was explained in the movie that there were many "recruiter" armies like the one Mulan shows up and signs into, and they were slain by Huns earlier and/or unable to make it to the Tung Shao Pass like her army almost didn't make it, I could understand. But as it's shown in the movie... there are that few men despite the kingdom being seemingly that huge and the order being that many men?)

I agree with Tygers_Eye but it wasn't sure that every man would go to the same camp where Mulan were, I got the impression there were several similar training camps all around China. But yeah, the unexplained disappearing of soldiers during movie is mistake(though some maybe died in avalanche).

^ True, but here are many missing soldiers even before the avalanche. As the Nostalgia Chick says in her review of the movie...

Shang: We're the only hope for the emperor now.
Chick: All twelve of us!

I had forgotten about that completely. Tygers_Eye is right but I don't want to change my answer since I hadn't even remembered that detail:)

Actually, there is one part where the soldiers' tents are shown with Japanese flags, not Chinese flags. That was really the only one I noticed.

^Lissabelle116, it's not japanese flag on medic's tent, according to directors it's ancient chinese sign of medic.

Yes, there is the film goof where the number of Chinese soldiers dwindle ( which goes unexplained). Most Disney movies have goofs? Like the boner in the priest in the original screenings of The Little Mermaid. As for discovering major plot-holes in the flow and consistency of this story...there aren't really any, save that soldiers randomly disappear. Mulan is a rather air-tight movie.

It has only one real mistake. When Mulan cuts her hair the blush on her cheeks and her eyelashes disappear. Then suddenly when she's discovered they come back? What did the doctor just decide to fix her make-up or something?

By the way, you forgot about Brave.

The writers sat around the table and thought "How many Chinese steryotypes can we cram into 90 minutes"

Also Mushu is unsympathetic and annoying, and the cricket thing is pointless.

It's kind of like Aladdin if it were more political, and it falls a bit flat

Yes, I think I found one. At the conclusion of the song "I'll make a man out of you," Mulan's captain/trainer/future boyfriend sings "Pack up, go home, you're through" to mulan. So, why not just go home? Wasn't she just there to keep her father from having to be recruited? Would they have gone back to his village and said, "sorry, your 'son' is a terrible warrior. Now you have to come fight the Huns"? Not likely! Seems to me she could've just walked away and ended the movie.
