I've wondered about this, but I can't really think of a reason. Mabye they just didn't want to have to introduce another character...?

Maybe, though I doubt it because each story or faerytale symbolises something and there's a reason for everything, I mean there must've been something that made the creaters skip the mother, no?

jasperrr picked Perants are over-pretective. Would be hard for to any with 2 worry-warts.:
It seems like if they had two people being super protective of them, the story would go no-where and would ruin the girls' personalities? I'm not sure, but mother's always seem to be the ones being very protective like Mary Darling in Peter Pan: George wasn't too worried about Wendy's tale of Peter visiting, whereas Mary was very concerned. I suppose if the mother was there, they wouldn't do anything but try and protect the daughter, and the plot wouldn't last.

Actually, I think it's because most of these stories were written that way a long time ago.

Actually Disney felt guilty about his mother, don't remember why, and that's why he "killed" princess mother

The only classic stories the Disney corperation actually wrote themselves are The Lion King and The Princess and the Frog, and in both those movies, mothers are present.

It wasn't Disney's idea to kill the mothers off.

I like to think it was because many women died in child birth or shortly thereafter, but maybe Disney and I are on two separate tracks there. Also, I think it adds an element of sadness that a girl no longer has her mother to guide her.
