Lack of character development + unacceptance of responsibility + disregard of queenly position = a character that greatly irritates me.

Actually, I could have picked "lack of exploration", but I felt that didn't completely explain my reason. What bothers me is the lack of scenes where she isn't controlled by her fears. During "Let It Go", she proudly proclaims that her fears can't hold her back anymore and even gives herself a makeover in order to symbolize the "new" Elsa. But the very next scene she panicks the moment Anna goes through the ice palace's door.

That's why I think "Life is Too Short" would have worked ideally. In that scene, Ela is very self-assured and independent. After she inadvertendly hurts her sister, she would panick and feel her fears take over her as she realizes what she has done and summons Marshmallow. Then the movie could proceed more or less the way it actually did, with Elsa resolving to "Conceal, don't feel" as her palace grows more monstrous and fearsome.

Also the fact that she was pretty much designed to be loved/related to by today's teenage girls. Let It Go is especially ambiguous so that so many Tumblr girls can listen to it and relate to its special snowflake theme.

I think I could forgive a lot of the other problems if she just got more screen time and character development beyond JUST being afraid of, accepting, falling back into her old fear, losing control of, and finally learning to control her powers.

Especially this one 'Her lack of character development/exploration beyond her powers'. Without fear, she doesn't have personalities. So annoying...

To be fair, she runs away to avoid hurting people (not to escape responsibility).
