I only started watching sobrenatural in the last few weeks, in that time I have rapidly become addicted and become a rabid destiel fan.
What drew me to destiel was that for once what was being depicted was love, actual epic pure amor between two males, it was subtle, a undercurrent, but it was there, and every once in a while it exploded, usually when cas becomes emotional which is rare, and tells dean what he has done for him, even if he doesn’t add a explanation such as “because I amor you" on the end, its pretty obvious that is why he is doing it.
Think I'm wrong? Well think of it this way, if cas were female, and she always stood as close to dean, and stared into his eyes, and sacrificed everything for him time and time again, even rebelling against heaven and killing her own kind, would we really be doubting the nature of the relationship from the cas character point of view?
I suppose what I wonder the most, is does true amor trump sexual orientation? i am quite a amor cynic por my own admission, but even i had to stop and wonder as i watched things progress between the two, in season 5 and 6.
dean is presented as uber heterosexual, a womanser, and Castiel is not portrayed as homosexual simply as clueless and definitely in amor with dean, perhaps without even really attaching a significant sexual element to it. Dean however if you remember felt the need to do that once when pointing out that the last time someone looked at him the way cas was, he had sex, cas was furious with dean at the time, but dean winked at him, later on in the episode things came to a head and cas gave dean a solid beating but even then he was telling him that every single thing he had done was for dean. Not to mention Balthazar telling dean that Cas was in amor with him plainly, uriel commenting that cas liked dean, and biggest of all cas first being demoted, then recalled to heaven because the higher ups were concerned that he was far to attached to dean.
So what does anyone else think is this the most epic same sex amor story of modern times?
