It's from the Book of Kells. Where it is one of the four traditional winged figures representing the Evangelists. It is the symbol for Saint Mark; with the ox representing Saint Luke; the eagle, Saint John; and the man, Saint Matthew.

That's right - the tattoo belonged to the character angel only and was added to David Boreanaz's very nice back with makeup.

Yep. That isn't David's tattoo. It's just Angel's tattoo. Booth has two tattoos, one on each wrist.. Those are David's real tattoos.
