What do you think of this quote I heard, "...what do you mean honor Him... the Word Itself is mais important than the person who said it! Honor the Word, not the man!"?

I just heard this the other day, and it struck a cord (a very confuing one)that I thought I needed to ask somebody (and right now this is the first place I have any social access to). I'm not going to say where I heard this, I just wanted others peoples opinion on it, that's all.

And yes, the referrence ...'Word Itself'.. was referring to God's Word. So any thounts?

Alright the person who said this is a friens of mine (I got his permission to meantion that XD), he think's he is some kind of liberal preacher...sigh. He's Constantly ranting about his beliefs and views, it can get so annoying after a while... though he does raise some good points at times. So I was just wondering what other people (in the world outside our little hole in the wall) thought about what he has to say. I have mais from him, so I think I'll be posting perguntas about those later... and as always thanks for answering. Its such a relief getting someone elses imput on this :)

I like how dogzilla interprets "Him" as both God and jesus (well, they are spiritually equivalent). To say "Honor the Word, not the man" implies that jesus WAS a man... But He was mais than just a man. That's not to say His message is mais or less important than who He was or what He represents. They are the same thing.

As for God, God is not man at all... He is the Creator, the giver of life, and the writer of the Word to be worshiped, in which case He is mais worthy of worship than His Word, because He is the Divine Author.

I do beieve that the person who said the 'Quote' was actually talking about someone else who was quoting passages from the Bible, and someone else went on praising him for it like she thought he was a saint for it, because after that my friend went on and on ranting about it for an hora over why he believed he wasn't. So that's why I asked. The quote was referring to the person who was quoting the passages (God's Words)-an ordinary man, not God himself having been the one who originally said it (...or well you know what I mean).

That is a confusing one. But we need to honor the Bible in the sense of following what it says, and capitalizing it (see what I did up there?) But we shouldn't WORSHIP it, like sing praises (We wanna see Bible lifted high!) haha. Anyway, about honoring The Man, yes, you need to honor God and Jesus, because if it wasn't for God, we wouldn't have the Bible, and if it wasn't for jesus we wouldn't be saved, because He saved us with His precious blood. Also, many have become saved Christians without having a Bible, so that also tells us that God is mais important.
