Chapter 16
Brennan woke with a start. At first, she thought it was all a dream, but then the person beside her moved. Booth opened his eyes and stretched. Brennan lay her head on his chest, carful to avoid putting too much pressure on his cuts.
His hand wrapped around her waist. He was relaxed until Brennan said,
“Booth?”
“Mmmmm?”
“What time was Genevieve meant to be back?”
“Uhoh.” They both sat up. Brennan leaned over Booth and pulled a piece of clothing off the digital clock.
“It’s seven. She left at about five, so she should be back por now.”
Booth grabbed his jeans off the floor and pulled them on. He got up and looked around for his shirt.
“Here.” He said as he tossed Brennan her jeans. She had already found her shirt. She spotted Booth’s camisa lying on the dresser seguinte to her. She grabbed it and walked over to him.
“Here.” She said as she handed it to him. As he pulled it on, she looked at his mussels. She’d never tire of seeing that.
“What?” he asked as a sheepish smile came over his face.
“Nothing.” She kissed him passionately.
A knock on her door broke their trance.
“Quick turn on the TV.” Booth instructed as he headed towards the door.
“Why?” Brennan asked.
“Just do it.”
Brennan flicked on the TV as Booth opened the door. It was Genevieve.
“There you are.” She said suspiciously, “Where were you?”
“Sorry, we started watching TV and completely forgot about jantar until bones mentioned her stomach.” Booth lied convincingly. “Anyway, let’s go.”
Genevieve seemed to believe the lie, so she turned and led the way. Booth and Brennan exchanged a ‘that was close’ look and followed. chá was followed por nothing in particular so they decided to have an early night. Genevieve was already at the main house, where her bedroom was, so she didn’t need to go anywhere.
On the way back to their cabins, there was a weird silence between Booth and Brennan. After a while Brennan broke it por asking,
“So what now? I mean are we a couple?” she asked shyly. por now they were standing at the door of her cabin.
Booth smiled kissed her. “Depends, do you want to be?”
She smiled shyly and nodded. He put both hands on her cheeks and said,
“Then I’ll see you tomorrow.” Then he walked away leaving Brennan to survive her increasing coração rate. She felt like a kid on her first date. borboletas filled her insides and she stumbled into her room.
Chapter 17
Brennan got up eager to see Booth. He wasn’t sitting on her veranda, like he usually did, so she went to his cabin. He wasn’t there either. His shoes were gone so he must have been up. She cheeked the barn. Again, he wasn’t there. She walked over to Dawn.
“Have you seen Booth?” she asked, knowing it was stupid to talk to a horse. She didn’t expect an answer, but Dawn looked at Starlings stall. It was empty. She stroked Dawns nose.
“Thanks.” She left the celeiro and strode towards a paddock. Sure enough, Booth was there, riding estorninho around at a speedy pace. Booth hadn’t noticed her, so she stood still and decided to see how good he was. She watched, spellbound as they leapt over the odd fallen log. The sun glistened off Starlings coat, but she was looking at Booth. She watched as his muscular body moved with the horse as if they were one. Eventually, he slowed to a trot, and then stopped, looking around. Brennan quickly hid behind a barrel, hoping she hadn’t been seen. She knew Booth wouldn’t approve of spying. The minutos passed. When she dared look up again, he wasn’t there. She stood, trying to spot him when a unimpressed voice from behind startled her.
“Look at this Star, we have a spy on our hands.” he rode around her in circles.
“I wasn’t spying, I was, observing.” Brennan said defensively.
“From a distance? Behind a barrel?” Booth enquired doubtfully.
“Yes.” She said satisfied.
“You were spying, so as punishment, I’m going to kidnap you. So come on.”
He smiled and held out his hand. When she took it, a strong arm pulled her up behind him. She was a bit Startled to see how high she was. Her arms instantly tightened around Booth’s waist. He smiled to himself and set estorninho towards the forest.
“Where are we going?” Brennan asked.
“You’ll see.”
The rest of the way was silent. Neither of them minded though. Brennan rested her head on Booth’s shoulder and pulled closer to him. After about ten minutes, they arrived at a clearing overlooking the valley below.
They stayed for a while, enjoying the fresh air and the different scenery from the city. They sat on the green grama under a árvore at the topo, início of a hill. Brenan sat on Booth’s lap and leaned against him, and Booth wrapped his arms around her waist.
“We have to go back tomorow.” Brennan said dully.
“Mmmm.” He seemed sad.
“Are you going to miss Starling? You both like each other lots.”
“I guess. But maybe I can visit him.”
Brennan looked at him and he kissed her.
“I didn’t know you could ride that well.” She said eventually.
“I would have ridden earlier, but the loser-brain gaio, jay was here. And you know,” he did and imitation of Jay’s voice, “You can’t have stupid city slickers performing dangerous stunts.”
Brennan laughed and said, “We’d better get back.” They took one last glimpse at the view, and left.
