Here is the first step in my Banshee Recovery Program. Yep, welcome to my therapy. This is my review of the series finale, 4x08 'Requiem'.

I wasn't really sure what I was expecting from the finale. The fourth season had been a little odd, with the focus on the, hate to say it, clichéd and kinda boring serial killer Satanists (more on that in another therapy session). With Satan McHornFace out of the way, I was hopeful that our last hora in Banshee would focus on our beloved crew of misfits, and on that front, the finale pretty much delivered.

I loved the opening of the episode. A horde of Nazis nullified and Calvin got a good slapping. I thought it was a cool way to embrulho, envoltório up that particular aspect of the Nazi storyline, although perhaps signalling right from the start that the writers had their work cut out for them to embrulho, envoltório up all these various storylines, at least to some extent. Was kinda disappointed we didn't get to see if burton could burn through THAT many Nazis, but I'll settle for Calvin's slapped face.

The Carrie-Job fuck up of Proctor's deal was some classic 'Banshee' awesome. I think her sitting in the back of that truck and sassing the SHIT outta those big scary bad guys was my favourite Carrie scene of the entire series. So delightfully bitchy. As was Job, as always. No idea where in sweet hell Brock got a fucking bazooka, but that is for sure some classic 'Banshee' nonsense I will totally accept without question.

The aftermath of the explosion is probably another one of my favourite scenes of the entire series. Proctor managing to kill Mr Cartel while still in a daze, burton well and truly getting shit done despite also being pretty fucked up... such a visually amazing scene with a classically high 'Banshee' body count.

Originally when composição literária this review, I had a massive chunk of text in here about Burton's death. I decided to remove it and do another entire artigo dealing with my feels on that one. So be on the look out for that, if you care about my pain. In the meantime, I'll just say that entire block of the show that dealt with Burton, capuz, capa and Proctor was brilliant, and traumatising.

And of course the fun never ends in Banshee, and it was Kurt and Calvin's turn to nauseate me.
Both Tom Pelphrey (Kurt) and Chris Coy (Calvin) knocked it out of the park this season, playing those Bunker brothers to perfection and there final face-off really was the culmination of a harrowed journey for both of them. What really elevated the fight to stuff of emotional devastation (aside from both brothers being at the edge of madness for different. conflicting reasons) was the way it played out in a yard, much like they might have play-fought as kids. Even their fighting styles descended into a school-yard fist-fight, picking each other up and throwing each other around...

As much as I hate Calvin for the things he did, mais and mais we have seen him for the sad, frightened, angry man that he was. This final scene with him played that out perfectly while also showing Kurt's intense, conflicting pain about having to kill his own brother. The moment he sits in the grass, alone, perhaps much like he did when he lost a childhood fight against Calvin, was a real kick in the guts... One trauma after another... just another dia in Banshee...

The montage following up on various characters was wonderful, although I could have certainly done without that final shot of Burton's corpse alone in the woods. But it was an important transition into the show's final embrulho, envoltório up...

In the end, Veronica Dawson was a waste of time. I wanted to like her, but I now have no idea what the point of her being there was. I'm going to be generous and assume that because the series had to essentially embrulho, envoltório up early they actually had a lot mais planned for her, and for other characters and storylines actually.

capuz, capa and Carrie's final goodbye gave me all the feels. I'm really glad they weren't tempted to have them run off together or set up house together in Banshee. The show handled Hood's response to Siobhan's death brilliantly so to have Hood/Carrie be explicitly endgame would have undermined all the brilliance of Hood's emotional arc. So acknowledging the enduring nature of capuz, capa and Carrie's relationship while not having them actually together was a stroke of genius. There last moments together were perfect and beautiful.

Job and Sugar's last moment together was also perfect and beautiful (AS WAS JOB'S HAIR OMG). Those two loved each other, in their own weird way and it was fun to see that still played up in their last moments together.

Job's demand that Banshee suck his tit was pure Job awesome and a somewhat quiet, but fitting send off for the character. I think they probably gave Job his finale exit in the episode before when he hands down some Job-style justice to Leo. But I was still pretty happy with how Job strutted off into the sunset. To be honest, the fact that he wasn't dead was enough for me to be totally satisfied with his arc.

There had been a disappointing lack of Sugar through season 4, but the gravity of his final scenes I think makes up for that. I'm a sucker for when tv shows cycle back to beginnings, so when we ended up back with Sugar and Hood, in the bar, discussing redemption and "choosing another road" I was a bit of mess. While Sugar was obviously talking to capuz, capa about Hood's life and his own, Sugar's monologue applies to most of Banshee's residents. Character's like Hood, Sugar, Carrie, Job, Kurt and Brock all sought redemption and/or administered some serious self-punishment for their 'sins' but managed to alter course and have their 'sins' mean something in the end. Characters like Rebecca, Proctor, burton and Calvin, however descended into chaos in their attempts to discipline their 'sins'...

Anyway, Sugar speaking over Hood's departure from Banshee was amazing. Perhaps a somewhat clichéd ending, but perfectly executed to give me the major feels and provide a pretty fucking hopeful ending for a show that has dealt some heavy blows.

So those are just some of my many and varied thoughts on the series finale. I have mais extensive thoughts on how the finale actually fits in in the grand scheme of the whole series, which I will be talking about in yet another therapy session where I review the entire series and continue to work through my 'Banshee' traumas!
