animê Article: animê is NOT cartoon!!

Probably 99% of animê fantards (such as myself) have heard someone call animê "a cartoon."
Whenever I hear this, I explode with reasons the two could not possibly be any different!
Here is the list of reasons I have in case anyone else runs into this argument por chance:
1. animê is from Japan, and ONLY Japan... desenhos animados are dumped here from everywhere else.
2. animê is for all ages; desenhos animados are either for practically four ano olds or forty ano olds, with nothing decent inbetween.
3. animê MAKES PEOPLE CRY. DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS CRIED BECAUSE OF ADVENTURE TIME?! NO, YOU DON'T.
4. animê contains realistic proportions and natural movements. Sorry Nickelodeon, but most people can't flip crabby-patties like that.
5. I have never seen a cartoon with a larger fanbase than that of an animes (aside from MLP: FiM but that's pretty okay if you've ever seen it). People don't fill up whole forums talking about last nights ep of Total Drama Island.
Thanks for reading, and if you do like any of the shows I sorta made fun of, sorry in advance, its just there to prove my point

IllusionDolls My opinion on the matter: Anime is an abbreviated pronunciation of "animation" used in reference to cartoons produced in Japan, likely given that it fits in with other Japanese terms, considering the placing of the vowels/consonants. They are drawn as and are [i]cartoons[/i], but are different from cartoons of other origins. Actually, even manga are considered as Japanese cartoons, as American comics are ('manga' is the Japanese word for 'comics', so I don't see why not). For example, 99% of cartoons in America are brewed with a conception to mock things (ex: specific groups of people, problems of society, etc.) Japanese people simply like to write their cartoons differently and with more of a variety.

AnimeFan66 I know you didn't meant to be critical. Your article really is good by the way. :)

Thedrawer11 Maybe I like Total drama way more than I should but aside from that, I can see they are different, however, I just think of Western cartoons under cartoons and japanese cartoons under anime. In a way I think they are just different versions of cartoons. It's kind of hard comparing them. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

perryperry Anime is just a Japanese cartoon while the cartoons youre talking about are Western ones. I don't really see the problem, I guess the word cartoon is used to try to invalidate anime but that's literally what it is - cartoons made in Japan
