“Today I had to do something I fear I will regret my entire life....however long that may last after this encounter. I was sent to kill an entire family. The father, a Aristocrat, and the mother, a Pure Blood. They say the Pure Blood was changing many humans to vampiros and the Aristocrat was helping por draining the human's energy so the Pure Blood would have no trouble. The child, I feel, is an innocent victim. However, I can not go against direct orders. I was to kill them all. The child was said to have many powers. That was the reason they gave me for killing her as well. One of her powers was supposed to be shape-shifting. I believe I saw her leaving as a wolf, but I didn't tell this to the rest of the hunters. When I got there, there was a black lobo cub running away, and I didn't bother it. The way I feel, the child did nothing to deserve the fate of her parents. I started splattering gas on the house and they came out yelling at me. I shot that them, killing the male instantly but only making the female fall. As soon as she was hit she said something that will never leave me. She said I will die after my 1st child is born. How had she figured out I was due in a few months...and why hadn't she just finished me right there like I know she could have. It made me hesitate...thinking with certainty that they couldn't be the ones doing these things. But then my orders came back into mind and I struck the match, lighting the place and sending it into flames. The look on the Pure Blood's face as I struck the match...as it was disappearing within the fire, it's one I will never forget. It said: I gave you a chance to turn away and stop this from happening and getting worse...and you blew it. If the curse doesn't come true, I'm leaving with my twins so they will not have to go through what I have to. They will not feel the guilt of killing another living thing, nor will they have to go through the abuse of their father as I do. I do not want my children to grow up and be taught how to be murderers. As the old son goes: I didn't raise my boy to be a soldier. I brought him up to be my pride and joy, who dares to put a mosquete on his shoulder, to shoot some other mother's darling boy?”
And, of course, the curse did come true. As soon as me and my sister were born, she died. But, we still have the curse of vampire hunter twins as well. I didn't kill my sister, obviously, but I did steal all of her knowledge about vampires. Why? Well because it seemed....the best thing to do. What the Pure Blood didn't know was that we already had a brother that was one ano older then us. He was changed, so perhaps she did know...anyway, he was allergic to blood tablets and he knew my sister didn't believe. I told him I didn't want him to die and he had to drink from me. He wouldn't do it at 1st, but then he got to the point where he had no choice. After awhile...he went crazy. He said he shouldn't have done any of it and should have ended it before it started. And, true to his words, he shot himself.
After that, I got the blunt of all father's cruelness. You see, Sarrena was daddy's little princess and, because of that, she didn't even know what was happening to me. If I tried to tell her, she would say I was lying. So...I kept silent. Toga found me after I ran away for the 5th time. I spent almost all my time in the forest outside our house, so I learned the language of the animais that so closely guarded me when I was out there. When Toga found me, he said he was a close friend of my mother's and I should meet him there everyday from that dia on. This was before my brother killed himself. He taught me how to hunt vampires. At least...he tried. After brother was changed he tried to turn me against him. He realized he couldn't and so gave up on that. When he sent me out on my 1st mission, I failed because I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. He said: You're the best at cornering and tricking them, you can get them to do whatever you want, but you are weak. You refuse to shoot and for that reason will never be able to hunt vampires.
I was fine with that. I had no interest in killing anything.
One night I heard a slight shuffling upstairs and went to find out what it was. It was the attic...the never used attic. Never used as far as I knew, anyway. When I walked up there was an old, wooden chest with a blue mist around it. As soon as I saw the mist, it disappeared, yet a voice came. A voice that seemed familiar, yet I had never heard it before. It said: My mamma always said the best thing in life was getting me and loving someone higher then anything else in this world. She said she would give her life back for me. My mamma said the worst thing in life was gettin' used to lovin' someone higher then anything else in this world, baby...knowin' you're going to loose it all. I never got the chance to say this to you or your sister, but I will always amor you, and now I want you to see what happened. This is my chest, where I hid things your father would never understand. I feel you will.
And, with that, the voice was gone. That's where I found her diary and her hunter guns, her colar and her swords. I looked through it all, fascinated, and then put it back just as it was. I knew that if Chris found out, he would kill me. (and that isn't a joke or an exaggeration...he would tell Sarrena I was hit por a car or something)
After that, I looked up the song. It was called “I didn't raise my boy to be a soldier” but I couldn't find who sung it 1st. About 10 people have sung it, if not more. It's an old World War I song. (written to go against the war, of course)
About 3 years after that (I'm 13 at this point) I began to realize that sister and I had a telepathic connection. A slight one, but it was there. Every night we dreamed the same if we were dreaming about each other. She said she had a head ache about the same time when she wasn't there and Chris was hurting me. Of course, she didn't understand it. As far as she knew Chris was the perfect father. He treated us the same when Sarrena was there, but as soon as she left I became a punching bag. Which is why as soon as she left, so did I. At least...till dark. If i was out past dark then Chris would hunt me down. So I would sneak in at dark hoping he was gone.
Well, eventually, he got tired of me leaving at all...
one night, about 3 months ago...i walked in and he was drunker then normal. He went off and pulled a switch...he said I was never going to become anything mais then what he was using me for. He said my sister was the only one going anywhere and that's why she didn't get treated like this. That night I, unwillingly, lost my maidenhead. (he raped me, ok? That's the only way you will understand)
I ran as fast as I could into the forest where I knew the animais would take care of me. And I was right. I lived there for 2 months before something bad happened again. Though, oddly, it lead to a happy ending...
I was sitting on a rock por the river when a corvo flew by. It landed on my lap, looking torn. I looked back and asked it what was wrong. It said it was sorry and flew away, leaving me to wonder what the heck it meant. Soon....i found out. A beautiful girl walks out. Waring a beautiful white dress and a smile, she hardly seemed like a threat. In fact, she looked like a friendly cousin or something. She walks over and sits seguinte to me, and I remember looking at her in confusion.
“Why is such a young girl out here all alone?” she asked.
“Well it was either leave or stay with my abusive father.” I replied. Something made me think I could tell her anything. Maybe it was that smile...that kind, warming smile...
“Oh, you pore girl.” she replied. “You must be coração broken, young Forina.”
“How do you know my name?” I ask, looking at her.
She turns to me. “My dear, I know ALL vampire hunters and their children.” she says, baring her fangs at me and, quicker then I can say, she had her fangs in my neck. I open my mouth in a silent wail as another person shows up. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes...and the same fangs...he pulls her away from me and she whips around. “Kaname! What are you doing here!?”
“I knew I cheirado, cheirava, smelt blood, and I knew I cheirado, cheirava, smelt you, Shizuka Hio.” replied the man she had called Kaname. “What do you think you're doing?”
“Killing the one who's responsible for the death of a Pure Blood!” she yells back, trying to grab me away again. He blocks her way.
“It had nothing to do with her, it was her mother.” he replies, creepily calm as I feel another pair of arms around me. I turn to a guy in a mask with long, silvery hair and he covers my mouth and puts a gun to my head.
“It doesn't matter.” he says. “she's already changing, so this should end it quickly.” and Kaname grabs me just as he pulls the trigger. The bullet grazes me as he tosses me to the side an another man with the same silver hair and the same lavender eyes walks out. That....was the last thing I saw. I felt pain in my arm and heard voices. Mostly arguments and I heard fighting with swords or something.
“Take her to safety!” yelled a voice that sounded like Kaname's, but I wasn't sure.
“I'm staying here to fight!” yelled back the reply. “It's bad enough SHE'S back!”
“Zero, my puppet, you can't kill me anyway.” the girl replies.
“TRY ME!” the voice that she had called Zero yells back with a fearsome tone I've only ever heard father use when he was protecting Sarrena.
“Zero.” Kaname says again, still eerily calm. “She'll bleed to death if you don't take her back.”
“Why can't YOU!?” Zero snaps back.
“Because she can take control of you enough to make you unable to kill her, or even fight back.” was the reply. “and so, even though we know you wish you could, you can't. And besides....there is another life involved here, not just yours.”
“Fine.” he sighs, and I feel like I'm being lifted up and carried. I instinctively mover closer to whoever it was, seeking protection, then stop fighting and let sleep overtake me.
Later I wake up on a sofá with my head near someone's leg. Without thinking, I mover my head onto the person's lap and feel that, whoever it was, tensed slightly. I looked up just enough to see the face of whoever it was, and saw lavender eyes looking down at me in confusion. I smile back and close my eyes, still feeling pain in my shoulder. I feel his hand, slowly and hesitantly, raise and rest on my shoulder lightly. I mover closer, both for heat and protection, and I fall asleep again.
Soon after I wake just slightly, but don't open my eyes. I hear footsteps and I feel myself curl up a bit closer as I realize his hand is still on my shoulder. I hear the steps get closer, then I hear laughter.
“I thought you said you didn't want to save the girl?” the laughing voice said, and I relaxed slightly, knowing it was Kaname's.
“I didn't.” came the emotionless reply.
“Well she surely seems quite attached to you, Zero.” was Kaname's seguinte reply, and I had to keep myself from blushing. “And you seem to have grown fond of her as well, seeing as you could have left long ago.”
“I'm here because she's scared. In fact, she tensed when you were walking in.” Zero replies.
“And since when did that make any difference to you?” Kaname snickers slightly. “I think you didn't leave because she was changed por the woman who changed you, so you feel a connection with the girl.”
“A bold remark seeing as you never had to go through the pain of changing.” Zero remarks bitterly.
“Again, you've never cared before.” Kaname replies calmly.
“I could leave right now if I wanted to.” Zero replies. I could tell he was lying and, I think, so could Kaname.
“Well I think it's nice that you care so much about our new student.” Kaname says, walking to the door and leaving Zero in confusion.
“Wait...New student?” Zero asks before he leaves. “Head Master already said she was staying?”
“Of course.” Was the fading reply with footsteps that sounded like they were leaving. I blink, as if I was just waking up. I look up at the man that was called Zero, and he looks down at me with a slight half smile.
“You ok?” he asks, and I nod slightly.
A few weeks later I was sitting under a árvore with my usual pained look since I got there. Zero walks over and I cheer up almost as soon as I see him. He sits down seguinte to me. “Why are you always so sad?” he asks causally.
I look at him. “My only true family was my twin sister...” I sigh “I can sense she worries about me, and I worry about her. Though I know my father will never treat her how he treated me...he said I was useless...” I trail off, feeling tears run down my face. He puts his arm around my shoulder and looks at me.
“I will get Head Master cruz to find out about your sister and send her an invitation here, and I will make sure he doesn't put on it that you are here.” he says with a serious tone, and I smile, hugging him. He seems confused, then hugs back. A week later my sister was back. Kaname still laughs sometimes as he walks por us, realizing that if he hadn't made Zero carry me back all those months ago, we probably wouldn't be so close now.
Later on my sister was killed por a Level E, who was later added to the list and killed.
