Post an animê that's very highly (and rightly) rated but still not popular.

A visual novel called EF: A fairy tale of the two was made into an animê called EF: A tale of memories (sequel - EF: A tale of melodies). It's an awesome animê and those who have seen it only praise it but it's not very popular at all.
There are many animê like this but this one is a perfect example...

~Highly rated in Japão and was popular enough to hold 4 successful live events.... But in the west or any other place, it is barely known. Biggest reason why it is ignored in the west is cause it doesn't have an english dub and some are just really ignorant to watch it in Japanese or subbed + culture jokes that they don't really get XD
