We're all Otaku right? Well let's give some conselhos to the new Otaku (anime fan) shall we!?

OK...here's mine:
Of course you can listen to Vocaloids. But for your own sake, don't watch the video of Heratenaide yo Onichaan and Yokorosex if your younger sibling or older sibling or cousin is sitting seguinte to you.

Watch an entire show before you recommend it to someone else especially a family member. It might have some suggestive themes or really inapropriate things in it and you don't really want someone thinking that you're into that especially if you see them everyday.

i advise you, do not, i repeat, do not watch Rosario+Vampire it's awful, read the mangá and don't go near High school of the Dead, it's a waste of time

Alright, time to throw in my two cents.
Don't be afraid of really obscure anime. Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Attack on Titan; they're not bad (most of them), but there's better stuff out there. Just know what your tolerance level is for violence, cursing, and sexual stuffs. Example: someone who has a low violence tolerance isn't gonna watch Black Lagoon while someone who hates anything sexual should stay away from Boku no Pico. Actually, never mind, EVERYONE should stay away from Boku no Pico. Shotacon....
Anyways, that's pretty much it. Know what you like and what you can tolerate, and build from there. I'm gonna tell you now, most good animê has cursing in it. I don't know why, but it does. There will always be the exception, but 95% of the time there will be at least one curse word in the show unless it is a Magical Girl animê or a Tournament anime. Good luck~

First don't refer yourself as an otaku if you just started to watch anime.
segundo watch whatever you want just make sure to look at the genres first to see what'll be in the anime. Then watch it. If you like it go watch others with the same genre.
