animê recommendations?

uhm, i would say durarara, because it's the only animê i watch thats romance, but it's not gótico as much as dark.

I'd go with either Black Butler or Soul Eater. Neither have really much "romance" per say, but there are a few "romantic" elements added every once and a while. But Black Butler has some hinted shounen-ai stuff, so if yaoi and all that makes you uncomfortable I think it's best to stay out of that... Soul Eater has a gótico feel to it, but it's a lot of comedy that lightens up the dark aura it gives off.

I've also heard Death Note is good if you haven't seen it yet. I haven't myself, but I want to.

i would say soul eater i have only watched a couple episodes and it is just plain awesome

Fullmetal Alchemist is one dark animê show that comes to mind then durarara is one of those that must watch to understand how it is and/or dark in some cases like the god what do they call the check with out her hear. Not her name but people with out thier heads that are still alive there was a word that they call those people. this is going to bug the crap out of me tell i find out. But back to the queston, ramance one i would say bleach
