How do I connect with Wi-fi?

I have Animal Crossing; Wild World, and I live in New Zealand. Unfortunately, I don't know how to visit other towns? Where can I find 'hotspots'? I don't even have a friend code or anything because I can't understand all of the technical language or what it means..? Can anyone help?
